Earthdawn status cards by Kosmit

The great polish blogger Kosmit, some of you might know him from the Earthdawn forum, created some Earthdawn status cards which caught my attention. So after contacting Kosmit I am allowed to provide his english Earthdawn status cards over here on the Earthdawn blog.

status_4ed_eng

There is also a polish version of the status cards available which you can download over here.

Beside to the Earthdawn status cards Kosmit offers also an interesting statistic document on his page.

2018-06-19 21_41_26-Microsoft Excel (Fehler bei Produktaktivierung) - earthdawn_stat_blocks (1).xlsx

Kosmit writes:

Preparing a game session is a difficult task. I've prepared something to ease up preparing game stats for NPCs and monsters. You will find English version on second tab in excel sheet.

You can download the statistic formular over here

RPG food rations for various races

“Orcs aren’t known for their great cuisine”

The following gallery shows food- and trail-rations of various RPG characters and races that were used during RPG sessions of wats6831. I absolutely love the detailed composition of the food to represent the preferations of various roleplaying races. Especially the Drow and the Lizardfolk rations are absolutely great:

Three Earthdawn Promo flyers from 1993!!

The German Earthdawn publisher Ulisses-Spiele mentioned in a news article on march that they put the english Earthdawn Promo flyers online that were released in 1993 when Earthdawn was first published.

Those three flyers were published by FASA in 1993 to promote the start of the new Earthdawn game line. They contain information about the setting, intro rules and the adventure Kaer Tardim.

You can download the three flyers over here.

Earthdawn Artwork Galleries

As I was searching the net for recent Earthdawn news I stumbled up a lot of Earthdawn artwork galleries that I want to share with you:

Earthdawn gallery  @ Earthdawn.hu Sade

This is the site of Sade from hungary. The huge collection of Earthdawn artwork contains illustrations from present and former Earthdawn artists like Laubenstein, Janet Aulisio, Kent Burles or Kathy Schad. Beside the collection of artist illustrations you can find a category about maps from all over Barsaive.

Earthdawn art gallery @Earthdawn.hu

Earthdawn gallery @FondationDraco.fr

An Earthdawn gallery about the japanese Earthdawn edition can be found at the french Earthdawn page FondationDraco.fr

The Fondationdraco.fr provides a huge collection of the japanese Earthdawn artwork that is quite different from every other artwork you could find out there:

With the new Earthdawn 4th edition came a lot of new artwork into several books. This artwork was done by new artists that, I think, need to be mentioned too:

Earthdawn 3rd Edition - The Lost Treasures of the Codex Vol. II - Sirriens Bow of Precision

The Lost Treasures of the Codex Vol. II

Yes I am still here blogging about Earthdawn!!

Some time ago the first part of the series “The Lost Treasures of the Codex” was released concerning a place called ‘The Spire of Thaumaturgy’. There you’ll also find an explanation what the ‘Lost Treasures of the Codex’-Series is about. Please keep in mind that the series is based on Earthdawn 3rd Edition rules! And again: you'll find a PDF-file at the bottom of the article.

Well then, the second part of the series presents you a magical item called ‘Sirrien’s Bow of Precision’. The item description comes from Joeri Winkeler and the color images were kindly created and provided by Johannes Bech.

Sirrien's Bow of Precision

Maximum Threads: 2

Spell Defence: 14

Item description

Made primarily out of the same three wood combinations normal Elven Warbows are made from, the pieces of wood themselves create the symbols for True Air and True Fire in Sperethiel. Also in Sperethiel are the runes for Sirrien’s and Sarlindel’s names, inlaid with turquoise near the top.

Earthdawn creature: Manra's Dismal Beetle

Short notice:

The Working Class GM offers a little creature on his blog that he made for his Earthdawn campaign. He was so kind to give me permission to share the Manra's Dismal Beetle PDF over here on the blog too.

Earthdawn 3rd Edition - Lost Treasures of the Codex Vol. I - The Spire of Thaumaturgy

What are the 'Lost Treasures of the Codex'?

The 'Lost Treasures of the Codex' is a series of articles on the Earthdawn Blog which will present you source material for Earthdawn 3rd Edition.

The series is called the 'Lost Treasures of the Codex' because the source material was originally part of a submission for the 'Earthdawn Codex' Open Call from RedBrick back in 2007. But it is a shame that this material was never published as the Earthdawn Codex project wasn't realized. That's also a reason why the original author Joeri decided to provide the material to publish it step by step on the Earthdawn Blog.

The series will cover various descriptions of interesting places, new magical weapons, creatures, Earthdawn legends, disciplines and much more, to use in your game.

There will be several volumes of the Lost Treasures. I am revising the original files and texts to create articles and PDFs for Earthdawn fans to use it in their game. The original author Joeri 'Cpt. Cutlass' Winkeler and I thought this would be much better than having the files "rotting on his HDD".

Please keep in mind that the documents are based on Earthdawn 3rd Edition rules! You'll find the PDF-file at the bottom of the article. The PDF will of course be added to the 'Downloads Section' too.

So where to start? Ah of course:

Lost Treasure of the Codex Vol. I

This location is created for adventurers visiting Haven, the corner of Parlainth held and protected by Namegivers. Although it is meant for Havenites, you, as a GM may wish to use them elsewhere. Places like this should be available all over Barsaive where civilization is found. Some simple adjustment in Names and Gamemaster Characters will do the trick.

The Spire of Thaumaturgy

This relative newly erected building lies just outside of Haven bordering the dark, lush jungles surrounding Parlainth. The Spire was build due to popular demand several years after the founding of Haven. The building is a large, squat dome with a broad, spiraling tower in the middle. The tower extends some 12 feet in the air and is topped off with several smaller spires laid out in a haphazardly fashion. Surrounding the building is a 2 feet thick, 5 feet tall wall, completely covered with runes and protective wards. Inside the wall several small herbal gardens seem to flourish unchecked and present and array of exotic flowers and smells.

Earthdawn: The Age of Legend - Preview by Vagrant Workshop

Age of Legends

Vagrant Workshop, the German publisher of Earthdawn: The Age of Legend, recently released a free PDF preview of the upcoming book on their page. The 12 page PDF contains the 'Getting Started' chapter and of course the book's cover, which is a great displays of Kathy Schad and David M. Wright art skills.

For all of you who didn't read the news about the release of Earthdawn: The Age of Legend or the interview with Carsten Damm and therefore ask themselves, why another publisher is releasing an alternative ruleset for Earthdawn, I can only quote from the preview PDF, to explain the case:

The Age of Legend was designed for those who want a simple and story-oriented game system.

That's why Earthdawn: The Age of Legend is based on FU: The Freeform, Universal RPG game engine by Nathan Russel, to simplify the sometime complicate original Earthdawn Step System.

Official Earthdawn RPG Soundtrack - coming on March 18th 2016

Earthdawn Soundtrack

Update 20th March 2016:

The Earthdawn Soundtrack Album is now available at:

The recent rumors that an official Earthdawn Soundtrack is in the making are actually no rumors!

X Score sc1

The composer duo Konstantine Kazantzis and Jan Haak from X-Score created a professionally produced, official Earthdawn Soundtrack in cooperation with Ulisses Spiele (German Earthdawn publisher)! The duo can look back on a lot of experience in RPG-music as they already created the soundtrack for example for Contact, Space:1889 or Dark Age Wars.

I really have to say that my experiences with music in RPGs, from a Gamemaster perspective, were, how can I say it, 'disappointing'. The only roleplaying music I actually used during my games was from Erdenstern, but the music wasn't a fit for Earthdawn at all. On the other hand I sometimes used Free Nature Sounds to build a little bit of atmosphere. But there was no real fit for Earthdawn when it came to music so far.

In my opinion the official Earthdawn Soundtrack is about to change that.

The 17 tracks on the upcoming official Earthdawn Soundtrack have a total playing time of 72 minutes and they are actually a real fit for Earthdawn.

The songs cover a lot of moods and really transport specific atmospheres for Earthdawn. I realized that, as I heard thru the snippets that are available at Soundcloud. My absolute favorites so far are of course the songs 'Steel and Blood' and 'Onwards to Battle'.

Earthdawn 4th Edition Cheat Sheets for Character Creation and Development plus Players Guide Cheat Sheet

Update June 14th 2015

After some feedback the PDF got updated and some errors were fixed.

Elidis, who already created some beautiful stuff for the German fan community published recently his Player support sheets for the German Earthdawn 4th Edition. When I asked him if he could provide his sheets in English too, he was so kind to translate the sheets. And how it goes, I am now able to present you his cheat sheets for Earthdawn 4th Edition: ‘Character Creation and Development’ and for Players the ‘Players guide light’ PDFs.

Stylish Earthdawn 4th Edition Character Sheets

The recently released official Earthdawn character sheet was not very well received by many fans. Well, experience shows that many fans prefer to design their own character sheets , as these then most likely meet their requirements. Be it optical or simply useful criteria. A criteria for me is for example to have editable PDF’s, to capture Attributes, Talents, Skills or Spells. Others prefer sheets where you can capture everything up to high circle characters and so on, but what about stylish or well designed sheets?

One fanmade Earthdawn 4th Edition character sheet was already introduced on the blog, even before the official release was made. But it’s design is rather minimalistic and focused on printability.

Do you remember the editable scroll-design-sheet that was released on the Earthdawn blog on 2013? Yes, again it is Patryk aka UglyGoblin that contacted me with another approach to publish an editable stylish Earthdawn 4th edition character sheet.

I am very proud to present you the creation by Patryk. Have a look:

Sheet

Good news for our polish readers! Patryk has already created a Polish version of his sheet in addition to the English version. A German translation is in the making.

German Earthdawn Fanwork - Die Schätze der Himmelsstürmer

The recently announced German Earthdawn fanwork PDF by the german RPG page "Die DORP" (Dimension of roleplaying) was released yesterday:

The German info reads:
Die Schätze der Himmelsstürmer sammelt auf 16 Seiten die magischen Schätze unserer letzten Kampagne, mit Beschreibungen versehen und an die brandneuen Regeln der vierten Edition des Rollenspiels Earthdawn angeglichen.
English Google translation:
The Himmelsstürmer - a group of young adepts who was distinguished by all the virtues that you can think of: courage, kindness, curiosity and adventurousness.
Your treasures? A mirror which - a wild collection of useful, magical items, for fighter craft and sorcerers alike.

The treasures of Himmelsstürmer collects on 16 pages the magical treasures of our last campaign, provided with descriptions and aligned with the brand new rules of the fourth edition of the role-playing game Earthdawn.

Official Earthdawn 4th edition character sheet available for download

Back in September 2014 we already converted a fanmade character sheet to the Earthdawn 4th edition rules with the help of Mogan Weeks.

Update June 14th 2015

The character sheet is "unfortunately" no longer available at the download section at FASA games.

Now, after the release of the Earthdawn 4th Edition Player's Guide PDF, FASA provides an official 4th edition character record sheet on their download page.

Earthdawn 4 edition character record sheet
ED4 Character Record Sheet
The sheet uses the D12 dice table and it provides on 2 pages space for basic character stats. I would say for high circle characters it is not useful, but to start with Earthdawn it should be good enough. It simply provides the base stats of your char in a good overview, nothing more nothing less.

Earthdawn races color images by Sade

I was really happy to receive the Earthdawn 4th Edition Player's Guide PDF a few days ago and I especially like the new colored artwork of the book. Even if some people, like always, complain about the cover artwork, but that's another topic.....

Speaking of colored Earthdawn artwork:

I recently got contacted by Sade. You may know some of her projects like the ePIC Generator or the iRPG fantasy app.

Sade created some beautiful colored artwork of all Earthdawn races and she was so kind to give me the rights to publish them here on the blog. She is also planning to create some Theran images, so maybe we'll see an update of this article soon.

Your opinions and comments are as always welcome.

So let's see:

Pre-order German Earthdawn Player’s Guide

Ulisses Spiele

After some Polish Earthdawn news, I can report about some German news released by Ulisses Spiele too.

As the title says, the German Earthdawn Player’s Guide can now be pre-ordered at Ulisses Spiele. But Ulisses doesn’t just provide one version of the Player’s Guide. No. They offer 3 different versions!!

One regular hardcover version, one limited blue Espagra leather version(!!!) and a softcover-saving version, which comes without pictures and is almost plain text. I guess for the minimalists, who prefer plain information and rules.

The news published by Michael Mingers also adds, that Ulisses will likely use the old Earthdawn logo on the German books.

For all German speakers, head over to the news page for further information. You’ll also find a great fan work link at the news article, which provides a summary sheet for character creation made by Elidis!

Anyone who wants to translate the character creation cheat sheet for Earthdawn 4th edition?

Earthdawn race size comparison chart

Recently I stumbled upon the Name-giver Race Size Comparison Chart at the Earthdawn Compendium. I really like the comparison and after a short conversation with Flagg, I was allowed to add it to the blog. I added metric heights to the chart so that the rest of the world can better picture the size differences of the Earthdawn races.

Graphic tribute to Game of Thrones

Watching the new season of Game of Thrones?

Where have all the wildlings gone?

The superior designed page by Nigel Evan Dennis lists a huge amount of information about Game of Thrones.

GoT pic
Why?

That is probably the best question. I love design. I love 'Game of Thrones'. The story and the characters of the show fuel the outlet. The outlet being this website. I also believe it is important to step outside of your creative comfort zone and develop some new "chops".

ePic Character Generator released – Illustrate your characters easily

SaDe is a well known name in the Earthdawn community. She accomplished several projects over the years, which all represent her unique art style. Be it the iRPG app, her great drawings for Earthdawn (Earthdawn cards) or her most recent project the ePic Character Generator. I reported last year about the generator and Sade’s plans when the program was still in development (read the article here).

Since last year a lot happened including a loss of Sade’s HDD…. But against all odds, the ePic Character Generator was released a few weeks ago at http://epicgenerator.net.

So let’s see, what can you do with the generator?

There’s a free demo available at the store, which contains a free female character that can be equipped to test the features of the program.

ePic Character Generator

The interface to create the character is neatly arranged. At the bottom are categories to modify areas of the character like body, armor, weapons and background. Each category provides buttons (in the middle) for the specific sections that you want to edit. The dice button generates quick random characters.

ePic Character Generator

The main menu of the program shows the different base chars that are available for the program. The demo character is of course limited and provides for example no weapons to equip the character. I was allowed to test the ePic Generator with the Elf Male Character to show you the full features of the program. Currently are the following races available for the program, but Sade told me that an other race is already in the making:

  • Male human
  • Female human
  • Dwarf male
  • Dwarf female
  • Elf male
  • Elf female

ePic Character Generator

At the store are several packages available for each race and include male and female bodies. The dwarf and human bundles cost $8.49 and the elf bundle is available for $13.59. Currently have all the packages 15% discount. The all I one starter package includes all races, male and female and is available for $59.99 (30% off atm). The additional races and bundles can be paid via PayPal of course.

The combination options to create your character are sheer endless. For example, the elf male char offers:

  • 33 base models (face expressions)
  • 31 pants
  • 26 boots
  • 37 tops
  • 19 colorable styles of hair
  • 7 fully made set
  • 35 special add-ons
  • 51 weapons and armor pieces
  • 7 token frames

All packages include:

  • 5 animals
  • 16 background
  • 3 frames

ePic Character Generator

The generated characters can be saved as png files on your PC. At the bottom corner of each generated picture is a watermark, but the mark can be removed with the Pro Version of the program.

 ePic Character Generator

Character tokens can also be created with the ePic Character Generator. Each base character offers a number of different frames to create your character token, for example like these:

ePicGenerator2014_3_23_13_2_7

ePicGenerator2014_3_23_13_12_11

If you want to test the demo character and download the program you'll need to register and create an account. The email that you use to register at the page http://epicgenerator.net is needed again to activate the program and to add races or bundles to your account. So keep it in mind.

I would’ve been happy to have such a Character Generator when I was still playing Earthdawn because my art skills compared to Sade’s artworks creations is –1. The creation of a character or a character token would have been much easier with this tool back then.

I have to admit that it is the best portrait generator I’ve used so far. I especially like the different styles of characters you can create, even if I mainly tried to create "Earthdawnish" characters, it is also possible to generate high fantasy-, demonic- or zombie like characters.

ePicGenerator

Even though some features are missing at this early stage, Sade and the programmers LBandy and Rawbits have done a great job with the generator. I guess they are working hard to add new features to the generator. I can only suggest to have a look at the ePic Generator and spent e few bucks to add some races to the core program.

Radiorollenspiel 2. Staffel auf Detektor.fm steht an

Beware!

rsz_artwork-12-gelb

German Earthdawn News – DORPCast Episode 22
